Muckross Head is a small peninsula about 10 km west of Killybegs and 3 km east of Kilcar. It contains a popular rock-climbing area, noted for its unusual horizontally layered structure.
The Muckross crag is quite popular because of the unusual climbing encountered there. It is a sea-cliff, situated above a partly tidal rock platform, and access is convenient. The overhanging nature of much of the rock makes climbing there quite strenuous, and yields some spectacular roof-climbing.
There are so many good spots for diving along the south coast of the county and much of it is centred around St. John’s Point.
The “Point” is famous for its diving – offering some of the best sea diving in Europe. There are a number of sites and a couple of deep wrecks.
The watery delights of the South West coast of Donegal are now open to underwater exploration with the newest dive school in the North West; The Killybegs Dive Centre, based at the Western Seaboard Fishing building on St Catherine’s Road.
