Shore Sea Angling: Donegal shore angling is among the best in Ireland. Almost every type of shore fishing may be done, for a very wide range of species, throughout the year.
There are more than twenty good shore fishing points around bay, from Darbys Hole in south through Erne Estuary (flounder), Donegal Quays (float fishing for mullet with ground bait), spinning from St John's Point, Killybegs Harbour (mackerel, etc from East Pier), beach fishing at Nun's Cove for flatfish, mackerel from Muckross Pier and Head, Teelin Pier (specimen conger, mackerel, flatfish) and White Strand (flatfish from beach plus mackerel). Shark fishing for blue shark Jul-Sept.

There is a large variety of birdlife in the area, The harbour area around Killybegs has been designated an important site by Birdwatch Ireland where Herring Gull along with a Yello-legged Gull, 16 Iceland and seven Glaucous Gulls have been sited and recorded.
The small now uninhabited island west of Killybegs known as Innisduff is also designated a "Special Protection Area" (SPA) by Birdwatch Ireland and also listed by Birdlife International as an "Important Bird Area" (IBA) for its barnacle geese.
